What's New!

A number of changes have recently been made to the site:

First, and probably most noticeable is that I did away with the thumbnails to get a view of the full sized picture. Now all of the pictures appear amongst the text.

Second, the number of pics have been increased from about 120 to nearly 300. A special thanks goes to Bob Eckler, Dick Eckler, Warren Johnsen, Paul Laskey, Bob Berch, Marty Hanna, Rick Miller and Bill Starr for allowing the use of so many great photos they've taken over the years.

Third, you'll find news clippings about different towers gleaned from the Northern New York Historical Newspapers web site. Currently there are only a few, but more will follow.

Coming some time in the future .... I want to expand this site to include all of the fire observation stations in the State and not just those operated by the Conservation Department's Bureau of Forest Fire Control. Over the years there were many towers put up for a variety of reasons. I'm looking to list only those which were erected for the primary purpose of forest fire detection.
