BLENHIEM COVERED BRIDGE
This is the longest single span wooden covered bridge that exists in the United States, and perhaps in the world.
The secret is in the enormous wooden arch between the two lanes that makes possible an extension far beyond the normal strength of wood.
The only metal that we found were iron bolts. There were many wood pegs and wood shims.
According to a sign, at the eastern end of the bridge, a Tory who made the mistake of returning after the Revolution was whipped to death right there.
It was built as a toll bridge, and the built-in "Toll Booth" is at the western end of the bridge.
