Mesa Verde, April, 2001. Ancient urban life-style, SW Colorado, near the Four Corners area. There are several cliff dwellings around the sides of Mesa Verde... which is very high.
This shot is from where everybody takes the classic photo as they approach the place. The climb back up to the mesa top is at the right of this scene, up a vertical cleft in the rock, and it is challenging. The people who lived here certainly got their cardio-vascular exercise in abundance.
