I did not take this photograph myself. I ran across it on the internet, and I instantly recognized it. The hotel at which I stayed was one of those buildings shortly after you start to drive up the hill toward the high point of land. I stayed there twice; on a north bound trip and on the return trip to Mexico City. I never got to that "island" off-shore, but I did swim off a beach some ways past that point of land. That is -- I swam until I heard people shouting, "Tiburones!" from the shore. I turned to look and I saw two fins headed my way and much too close. My swim back to shore was highly motivated, and I did not return to the water. For another memory associated with Matzalan, see Aikido test other photos.
