PERSONAL NOTES

Travel --
If you think of "travel" primarily as a body in motion from one location to another on this earth, then I have traveled a lot; for my pre-retirement commuting to work was exceptionally long. However, as is true of most commutes, mine was a repetition of movement to the same destinations whether I reached them by automobile, rail, or by air.
If "travel" means to you the richness of personal, social, cultural, visual, physical, and intellectual variations of experience that come from ranging over the various landscapes of the world and it's cultures, I have not traveled nearly as much as I would have liked. Travel was not part of our domestic life-style during vacations.

After retirement, my cousin Paul Girsdansky (33K) was willing to take "Uncle Bill" along on several trips across the country, and I have greatly welcomed the adventures. We frequently traveled with a tent camper or in a motorhome, several times with his daughter, Gwen.

Below are links to photographs and commentary from some of the trips. The National Park system in this country is wonderful. We have been to over a dozen of them, and I have always found them to be full of beautiful and interesting things.

I took relatively few photographs myself; as I was busy with an analog camcorder. As a result, several of these images were shot by Paul (as identified below).

A number of years ago, Paul researched U.S.Route 20,
traveled its length from sea to sea, and wrote a book about it.
He asked me to write a little insert box about a 3-lane section of Route 20
that used to exist near Richfield Springs.
