shomenuchi-ikkyo-ura technique for 5th Kyu test
tenchi-nage: the Heaven-Earth throw
Two other clips from the video tape

The four clips were taken from someone's video of the test (which included much more of course). They are a "stop motion" during techniques that call for significant, often circular, motion.

For anyone who might be curious, the picture on the left is of what is called shomenuchi ikkyo, ura version. This version is part of a spinning defensive sequence to the overhead strike called shomenuchi, and it ends with the attacker pinned on the ground. I think of the strike as "the beer bottle" attack after having seen a man being struck exactly that way with a bottle of tequila (not beer) which broke and badly cut the victim's face. That was outside of Matzalan, Mexico, in 1954.

The clip on the right is a moment from tenchinage (the heaven-earth throw) which takes the balance of "uke" (the attacker) when he attempts to grab both of the defender's wrists from the front.

It is hard work to be "uke" when your turn comes up, because he is the guy who takes all the falls and is therefore struck by the earth.
