Devils Tower,WY July 2004
There was smoke from a forest fire on our left (west) as well as the lightning and rain storm approaching the 600 ft. high Devil's Tower.
    The magma came up through pre-existing strata of rock and either fed a volcano far above it, spread out onto a surface, or intruded between pre-existing strata. All is eroded away except this huge column of very hard rock.
    I am pleased with this photograph.
