CROSSED ROCKIES FOR THE FIRST TIME ON THE GROUND

On a necessarily rushed trip by car from Tucson to New York State, I tried to see as much as I could within a very short time period. I shot this photograph during the last segment of the trip: 42 hours of driving that I interrupted only by short dashes from the driver's seat to see a view like this one, sometimes to take a quick snapshot, and then returned immediately to the road.
That segment of the trip was from the Northeast Utah border to Cleveland, where I napped for less than a couple of hours on the car seat and then continued on to New York. This photo was probably the last time that I left the car (other than for gas).
It was 25 years before I had a chance to return.
